C H A R I S

Quick History:

Heyo! My name is Charis, and I’m 31 years old. I currently work at a private university as a Residence Director in southwest Missouri. What is that, you ask? Basically, I mentor, life coach, and lead a dorm of female students and various teams of student leaders while living in an apartment with my husband off the front lobby—also known as our “Front Porch”. I’m currently in my 3rd year of being a Residence Director. I previously worked at an emergency shelter as a case manager for homeless youth, the first place I worked when we moved from Dallas to Missouri in 2016.

I was born and raised in southeast Louisiana with my 4 brothers, all of whom are also married. I’m the 2nd to youngest. At 18 years old, I moved to south Dallas to attend Christ for the Nations Institute (CFNI) where my husband and my relationship began. I received my diploma in practical theology, specializing in Children’s and Family Ministry. A year after graduating from CFNI, I continued my education at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) where my husband and I got married. There I earned my bachelors and masters degrees in Human Services Counseling. Regardless of my occupations, the last 7 years since starting my masters degree to present I have found myself having used every bit of my education and foresee continuing to use my education no matter where I’m working.

Outside of education and work, I am also a writer and dream of one day opening my own local coffee shop. I love laughing, quality conversations, and coffee shops. I love nature, drives through the country, and road trips. We love our home church where Mason is a greeter and I’m on the worship team and serve in our Pre-Kids ministry. Our church has been such a support and home the near 5 years we’ve been there. They are family.
